As the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, our bodies need a little extra care. Over the years, I’ve developed a toolkit of natural remedies and wellness practices that help me thrive through winter—not just survive it. Here’s what works for me.
Immunity Boosters
I start each winter morning with warm lemon water and a spoonful of local honey. Throughout the day, I sip on elderberry tea and take vitamin D (essential when sunlight is scarce). Fresh ginger in everything—smoothies, soups, stir-fries—helps keep my system strong.
Nourishing from Within
Winter calls for warming, grounding foods. I embrace seasonal eating: root vegetables, hearty grains, bone broths that simmer all day. These foods align with what traditional medicine has known for centuries—we need different nourishment in different seasons.
Movement & Rest
I honor winter’s invitation to slow down. While I maintain my yoga practice, I swap intense workouts for gentler movement—long walks in nature, restorative stretching, dancing in my kitchen. I also allow myself more sleep; our bodies naturally crave it when darkness comes early.
